Discernment.

Discernment is all about judging well, deciphering the difference between varying statements. Discernment is all about understanding the correct way to go. Think about the job searching process. We look for places of employment that align with our credentials, our degrees, and our work experiences. We discern which place of employment is best for us. We use discernment every day in some way, from deciding which brand of detergent to use to what route we want to take to our destinations.

However, the one use of discernment above all else is deciding about what is of the Lord and what is not. This gift of discerning the voice of the Lord will saves you from a road that is not intended for you. Discerning the voice of the Lord helps you understand the way you should go. Discernment connects you to your mission and purpose.

Discernment, as a follower of Jesus Christ, is vital and essential to our Christian walk. Our very active adversary wants you to go his way, follow his path. However, he is a complete and total liar who is out to steal, kill, and destroy. We must be aware of him and his false prophets.

Does the decision you are trying to make align with the will of God? Is that job aligned with God’s assignment for your life? You must have the gift of discernment to know for sure! We must know the voice of the Lord!

And how do we learn that? How do we obtain the gift of discernment? We go to the Lord! We seek His face. We read His Word. We spend time communicating with Him. We fast. We submit. We choose to fall deeper in love with God each and every day. We humble ourselves before Him. We follow His commandments.

This, friends, is how we receive that level of discernment that has us rebuking the false prophets that will come. This gift shields us from the lies of Satan. Discernment has us in line with God’s will. This discernment protects us, guides us, and saves us.

May we all grow in discernment so that we can filter all of our choices and decisions through the lens of Jesus Christ.

The Art of Clinging…

Cling: hold on tightly to…

What are you holding on to tightly? Is it your family? Is it your job? Your marriage? Your friendships? It is important to assess what is in our arms. What are we clinging to? What won’t we let go?

As always, the Word of God always directs us in the way we should go:

There is an art to clinging. In order to cling as the Lord directs, we must be willing to let go. We must let go of the things that weigh us down. We must let go of the people that are not healthy for us. We must release the toxic thoughts and toxic habits.

What is good for us? What is going to cause us to grow? Is it reading the news every 5 minutes or is it reading the Word of God? Is it endless scrolling on Facebook or time in prayer? Is it spending intentional time with those whom we love?

We have to cling to the Word of God, for it is good. We must cling to our prayer time, for it is good. We must cling to quality time with those whom we love, for it is good. We have to cling to the things that build us up, for that is good.

Anything we hold tight to will be exalted in our lives, we must remember that as we examined what’s in our arms, mind, and heart. Are you clinging to your job? Are you clinging to what is in your bank account? Are you clinging to the promises of God?

In this time of division, uncertainty, and confusion, let’s commit to holding tight onto our Lord and Savior. In a world of fake news and questionable statements, let’s hold on to the truth which is Jesus Christ. Let’s hold on to unity, joy, and peace. Let’s cling to the promises of God in a world full of lies. Let’s cling to the Lord’s protection in a world full of danger.

Let’s hold tight to love.

Clinging is perfected when we choose to hold tightly to God, our Father.

Show and Prove…

Faith requires action. Have you ever heard yourself saying, “I believe God”? If so, how do you live that out? Are your next steps bold and brave or small and scared? Are you moving beyond “hoping” the Lord hear your prayers to knowing that He hears your prayers? Do you speak His promises loud and proud or nervously?

Faith is an action word. You must say AND do! After you shout, “I believe you God”, you must live out that statement. You must be willing to trust God in a big way! You have to start writing, start filming, and start walking.

Believing God for healing? You must be committed to a healthier lifestyle. Believing God for the business? Start taking those classes. Believing God for a husband? Begin preparing yourself to be a wife. We must show and prove! We actively demonstrate our faith in God by preparing ourselves for the move of God. We must prove that we trust God by beginning to execute the vision He provides.

Without the work, faith is dead. The Word tells us so…

Active faith testifies to the capability of God. Make no mistake, He is GOOD and CAPABLE all by Himself! However, a world that does not know Him will never know just how amazing He is if we do not operate as the ambassadors and high priests we are. Our faith is used to testify of His Good News. Our faith eloquently preaches the Gospel of Jesus Christ! It’s time to show and prove to a dying and fear-filled world! Show and prove by your works! Those steps lead to a testimony of our Father!

Friends, your prayers and preparation tell of your faith. Your focus and drive speaks to the faithfulness of Christ our Lord. Your commitment, no matter what they say and what you see, echoes the message of the cross.

It’s time to show and prove!

The Gospel According To…

A wise woman once said that sometimes people have a tendency to minister from their hurt and pain instead of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Today, friends, we ask you what gospel are you preaching? Are you ministering from your hurt and pain? Or are you telling the world about the good news of Jesus Christ?

Sisters, this post is not intended to discredit your narrative. Nor are we discounting the hurt and pain that you’ve experienced. However, we must consider who is at the center of our stories. Does the event, the trauma, and the experience point to Jesus, to the one who caused the pain, or to ourselves? As believers and followers of Christ, of our lived experiences should point to our Savior. Yes, the hurt and pain is real but Jesus is greater. Yes, that person is wrong for hurting you but Jesus is still on the throne.

The Word of God informs us whose gospel we should be proclaiming:

The Gospel and Good News are used interchangeably in different versions of the Bible. If it isn’t clear, we are to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our life experiences should be woven into His story so that others can be drawn to Him. When delivered appropriately, your story is one that speaks of Good News, one that speaks of God our Father, Savior, Healer, Redeemer, and the list goes on.

Your pain and heartache belong under the feet of Christ not at the center of your story. You should proclaim Good News from a heart that has been repaired and restored. Love must be on the edge of your lips. Your voice is most powerful when it reveals forgiveness towards your oppressors. Joy can truly be your strength when you proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Your narrative matters and has the ability to empower but it is only the Gospel of Jesus Christ that saves…

Never Forgotten!

You, our friend, are not forgotten! God remembered Noah, Abraham, Rachel, Issac, Jacob, and the list goes on! Matter of fact, go on ahead and add your name to the list! He remembers the covenant that you were grafted into as you became a believer. He remembers that you need bread, water, and shelter. He remembers your dreams and your desires. He remembers the prayers you’ve whispered and the ones you’ve have shout! Sis, He remembers you!

You are not forgotten by the Lord! You are not forsaken by Him. Will you stand on this promise today?

He remembers your desire to finish that degree, to start that business, and to start that ministry! Be encouraged, He has not left you nor forsaken you. Whatever you’ve done, there is absolutely nothing that can separate you from His love. So praise Him today! Praise Him for remembering your name, remembering your family, and remembering your purpose! Rejoice even now for His memory (unlike ours) will never fail! Rejoice because you know that you are on God’s mind! Rejoice because you are not forgotten nor forsaken.

Sisters Helping Sisters is extremely thankful that the Lord has heard our hearts and that He remembers us! If you are in Hampton Roads, Va, myself, Pastor Tanya Coles, will be featured on The Street Preacher broadcast on WGNT-27, The CW at 6:30am every Sunday morning! I am thankful that the Lord has remembered our ministry and remembered our desire to proclaim the goodness of God to those who lost and in need of encouragement!

This world may say that you are insignificant if you look a certain way, don’t have a degree, or don’t make a certain amount. I, too, was once trapped by the lies of the enemy and believed that I was insignificant. We are here to rebuke the lies of the enemy right now in the name of Jesus! You are not insignificant, you matter to the heart and mind of our Father and Savior! You are not forgotten, your Heavenly Father remembers you!

Etch this truth on your minds and hearts: I am not forgotten. I am not forsaken. The Lord remembers me.

The Beauty of Our Feet…

It’s sandal season right? Even in the midst of COVID 19, women all over the world are making sure that our toes are ready to be shown! There is absolutely nothing wrong with that!

We must remember that our feet serve a bigger purpose than being wrapped in the cutest sandals we can find. Our feet are used to deliver information. Our feet are used as tools of guidance, leading us in the direction we decide to go. Are we using our feet to bless or curse? Are we using our feet for gossip or goodness? Are our feet being used to flee evil or run to it?

Scripture tells us the direction in which our feet should go:

We cannot miss the spirit function of our feet. The Lord in His infinite wisdom have designed our bodies with specific intentionality. How beautiful are your feet? Do you bring good news? Do you publish peace? Do you publish salvation? How beautiful are your feet?

It is our mission to remember the beauty of our feet. It goes beyond wearing designer sandals or making sure that you have on polish. The Word of God reminds us that our feet should be the tools we use to deliver comfort, to promote peace, and to extend joy. We must preach the Gospel and our feet are the tools used to do so!

This extends beyond the physical presence of feet, this is about the spiritual function of our feet! We cannot miss the exhortation, our whole bodies, even our feet, are used to the glory of God. Think about the last call you received from a friend? Did you encourage one another! Did you deliver the good news to one another? Or was it to gossip? Did you promote peace?

How beautiful are your feet?

Empty Prayers…

Empty Prayers may be considered an oxymoron but they are quite possible. Praying requires action. It’s more than getting down on your knees, pacing the floor, writing in the journal or whatever method you may utilize. It requires believing in their content.

A comic once said, “do you understand the words that are coming out of my mouth?” Today, consider that same question, consider the content of your prayers! Do you believe in what you are saying to God?

Do we believe the promise of 1 John 5:14-15?

One way to examine your prayers is in your reaction to the threats of the world. If you’ve prayed for protection, will you trust in your Protector when fiery arrows are sent your way? If you prayed for healing, are you walking in your healing? Will you believe God for the provision you’ve prayed for? We should walk away from our prayer time relieved and free. We believe God, right?!

The Lord tells us that His words won’t return to Him void. Our prayers shouldn’t be void as we send them to Him either. We must believe in the words we pray. We must believe in the God to whom we pray. We must believe Him for His promises. We must believe in who He is! As we pray His will, as we pray His word, as we pray His promises, He will respond!

Do you believe the prayers you are praying?

Fill your prayers with faith!

HIStory…

The books of Chronicles are pretty interesting. It features a recount of Israel’s history and it highlights the actions of the kings of Israel. For some, it highlights their love for the Lord, their victories, and challenges that they had to overcome. For others, it highlighted their evils, their struggles, and their fall and demise. Why some stories are shape a specific way and why others are not is just the way the Holy Spirit pressed upon the writer of the books.

Their stories became shaped by HIStory.

Typically, those who “did right in the eyes of Lord His God” often times had their strengths highlighted and their victories noted. Those who did not, did not.

How will your story be penned? This is an important consideration. While our stories won’t be featured in the Holy Word, our stories will be recalled as we approach our Savior. Our children and grandchildren will hear the victories and challenges, the triumphs and the trials. Just as the kings of Israel, our stories will extend beyond our lives. How will your story be told?

Did you overcome? Did you tear down the high places that tried to place themselves above the Lord? Did you fall before the Lord to praise and worship Him? Did you know the commandments? Did you live them? How will your storyteller tell your story?

Will HISTory prevail? Consider the exhortation from the Word of God:

He has a story written for you already! In His story, you are the victor! In His story, you are more than a conqueror. In His story, you are fearfully and wonderfully made! HIStory features a Savior who loved you so much that He died for you! HIStory features your purpose, your mission and His plans for your life! And when it is all over, HIStory features your eternal resting place. HIStory positions you for a powerful legacy and lasting influence.

All of our lives will be chronicled, how will yours be told?

How The War Is Won…

There is a quote, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t–you’re right.” Henry Ford

Mr. Ford was on to something.

One may say there is a war waging now, whether you consider the war from the nature perspective, with regards to the protests and the pursuit of racial justice and equality. Or whether you consider the ongoing spiritual battle from the supernatural perspective. The war is waging but with a focused mind and renewed perspective, it can be won.

If you hear of those protesting in streets or in the spirit, they realize that the battle is bigger than them but it doesn’t overwhelm them. They realize that the victory will change the generations to come. Those fighting, in the natural or in the spirit, understand that their enemy will not overpower them. The warriors on the battlefield, naturally or supernaturally recognize that peace and communication are keys to the victory.

This is how the war is won.

Your victory or defeat will always begin in your mind. It is no wonder that the Lord exhorts believers to transform and renew out mind with the Word of God:

With a mind set on victory, you can operate from a place of victory. You are not ruled by your emotions. With a victorious mindset, you are not governed by your feelings. You will be able to develop strategies of victory. You will be able to see the hand of God in your battle and in the war.

Your adversary also knows that with a transformed and renewed mind, you are unstoppable. This is why the attacks frequently begin there. If you think you are nothing, the war is lost. If you believe you are inferior, your enemy becomes bigger. If you are unaware of your identity, the enemy will begin to tell you who you are. Without a renewed and focused mind, anger and fury rule and win.

Soldier, continue to fight with a transformed and renewed mind. Continue to remain focused on the mission. Know that as you wage war against your adversary, it can be won.

Transform and renew your mind-the battle is first won there.

Stormy Weather…

The old adage, “when it rains, it pours”, often times reigns true. When you are driving in the rain, it seems never-ending and depending on the amount, can be scary. When you are waiting for the rain to end, it takes forever.

The disciples found the stormy weather in Mark 4 very nerve-wrecking. The wind was whipping vigorously and the waves were devastating: And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling.” Mark 4:37

This storm, however, was different because Jesus, the Prince of peace, was resting calmly in the back, napping. Jesus rebuked the wind and waves and went back to business as usual.

We all experience stormy weather. We, like the disciples, as believers in Jesus Christ, also have the Prince of peace, resting calmly in our lives as we go crazy. Our reaction to the storms of life testify of our faith in the Prince of peace whom is resting in our own boats. So why then do we fret and start to panic when encountering stormy weather? The questions Jesus presented to the disciples is the questions we must consider as well:

“He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?” Mark 4:37

We can not afford to let the stormy weather defeat us. Operating with the power and authority of the Holy Spirit, we can command the winds and waves to calm down. We are able to speak to that storm and let it know that the Prince of peace is with us and that He is where our faith lies.

Have faith in the midst of the storms of life. Believe in the author and finisher of our faith. Believe in His power and authority. Believe in His commitment to your victory over the storms of life. We must learn from the disciples on the boat. They chose to fret, we must choose to stand. Jesus is with us.

Let’s put our trust whom has saved us from the stormy weather time and time again:

Peace and Blessings
