Trouble, trials, and turbulence are our portion while here on Earth. Between the violence, the economic woes, and moral issues-troubles have no problem finding us. No matter how much we pray and plead, sorrow is inevitable. That is not the end result, however, as children of the Lord, we have a promise that awaits us at the end of the turbulent road. Christ tells us so, let’s look to the Lord:
The end is that you will overcome because Christ overcame it all! Trouble may be the portion but victory is the promise! Friends, this world is just full of sorrowful stories. Turn on the news, open up the internet-you will find all the troubles and ills of the world there.
But open up your Bible! There you will find the happy ending you dream of-Jesus Christ overcame the world’s ills. The end is that you will overcome too! There is a home in Heaven awaiting those who profess Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Our Savior achievements is our promise! Our happy ending isn’t found in retiring from a job in 30 years, it isn’t found in marrying the love of our life or becoming debt-free, our joy is in Christ alone. Christ is more than our happy ending-He is our joy-filled ending!
Sisters, we cannot let Disney or the latest romantic comedy shape our desired happy endings. There are cute and entertaining but they are not endgame. Victory is better than any movie that Disney can make! The approval of the Father is better than any story we will read! Sisters, we will cry and we will grieve in the world but because of Christ-we will win! Victorious living is our promise!
Accept Christ, and you too, can live happily ever after…
The silence can sometimes be deafening. It’s challenging to simply sit in quiet. The whistling of the wind, the creaks of the room, and the noises of nature can be too much to bear at times.
And we humans find ourselves enjoying the distractions and chaos on some level. Think about it: who has music playing while they are working? Who has the television going while you are preparing a meal? Who has the radio or a podcast on while attending to daily tasks?
And these are not bad things at their core, many people have had lightbulbs appear as they listen to a great podcast. Others have specific worship songs that have ministered to their souls. A good show can produce that hearty laugh that’s needed after a long day.
But the quiet place can be transformative, the quiet place can be the very place where you get the energy you need to power through to the next step. Let’s look to the Lord:
In Luke 5, just cleansed a leper. He just finished ministering-so withdrew to pray. He went to that quiet place to refuel. He went to the quiet place to receive their power He needed to move forward. The quiet place is needed and necessary for the people of God.
The quiet place can be scary. The quiet place can be loud. Oh but it is in the quiet place where you develop the mind of Christ. This place is where you get the Holy Spirit power to be an ambassador for Christ. The whistling, the creaks, and the chirps are symphonies used by the Lord to soothe our weary souls. Being with the Father in the quiet place is the sound we need to hear His gentle and wonderful voice.
…don’t last always! We all may have hummed this melody time and time again through difficulties. It may even sound a little cliche, but it is absolutely true!
Trouble has a stopping point, eventually things begin to turn themselves around and life gets a little easier, a little less complicated.
Trouble’s stopping point comes when we surrender, when we submit, and when we seek the Lord! He places all things into perspective. He provides a comfort that no one else can give. He is our hope! He has the absolute best track record-His defeat of death, Hell, and the grave is history-making news!
There is no other name under Heaven in which every knee-even trouble’s knew has to bow! We have this assurance in Christ that eventually trouble will fade, the Word says so:
Sin may be present but it is not our portion! Our portion is the forthcoming glory that will be revealed in Christ. Our promise is joy, peace, and power in Christ. Trouble is very present, victory is guaranteed!
Knee deep in trouble? Stand in your authority and tell trouble that it won’t last always!
Have you ever tried to get to a destination off of memory? You rely on landmarks, you jog your memory, and you end up lost. Eventually, you find yourself turning on Google Maps and then you get re-routed and back on track.
While this scenario is applicable for traveling to a physical destination, this is also true for a spiritual destination. When trying to figure out the best way to go, we will talk to our best friend, seek out a self-help book, and even talk to our Mama. And while our friends and family may have the best intentions, they should not be our first resource. We have to surrender the way we think we should go, we should give up trying to go our way and try Yahweh.
Jesus, Jehovah, Yahweh, Immanuel-No matter what name we call Him-He is the way, the truth, and the life! We have to surrender our way to Him! We must give up the path we think we know for the path He created for us. His way will lead us in the way everlasting. His way will lead us right to Him! The Lord our God has not left us alone to figure this road called life out, His Word is our guide. The Holy Spirit has been sent to lead us.
As we consider our way or Yahweh, let’s look to the Word for direction:
Albert Ellis is credited with initiating the phrase ‘stinking thinking’. The best description of the concept is that this line of thinking is based on the “human tendency to engage with thoughts that do not serve us.” (Author Unknown)
Our thoughts are seeds that sprouts. Thoughts will manifest into actions (or reactions). They can either be beautiful and fruitful trees or roots that choke. Our minds are the starting point for beautiful ideas and powerful concepts. The enemy is actively pursuing us and he starts with our minds. Satan is the father of lies and it starts in our minds! Stinky thinking is destructive. Stinky thinking is not of God.
The Word of God has guidance for His children when it comes to our thoughts:
It’s time to put an end to stinky thoughts! We are designed to be a sweet smelling fragrance. We are crafted to be great thinkers. How can we be who God called us to be if we allow our thoughts to run rampant? How can we build great plans if we do not think that we are noble, lovely, or admirable?
Your thoughts will either destroy or build up. Your thoughts will either be lovely or cruel. Your thoughts will promote life or death. This is why the Word of God tells believers to renew our minds with the Word of God. This is our greatest weapon against that tendency to go left. The Word is our greatest defense against the enemy’s schemes.
Submit those stinky thoughts to the Lord! Let’s be determined to cast down anything that tries to set itself up against the Lord and His Word. Place those stinky thoughts under your feet and stand on the truth of the Lord.
It is not Christmas. However, this lyric from “Joy To The World”, is found to be very relevant during Holy Week: “Let every heart, prepare Him room…” Holy Week focuses on the ultimate sacrifice Christ made on the cross and his victory achieved in the grave. His resurrection and His defeat of sin should be the primary reason why we must make room for Him.
Friends, we must prepare Him room. There is so much in the world vying for our attention and affection. In order to ensure that Christ is in the proper place in our lives, we have to “prepare Him room”. The junk and clutter must be cleared out: Worry. Anxiety. Comparison. Distractions. Discouragement. Discontentment. Strife. Envy. It all must go!
Submitting our hearts to Him, the very place from where the wellspring of life flows, prepares room for Him. Preparing room for Him gives Him glory!
Doesn’t the Lord deserve the space in our hearts?! Isn’t He worthy of all our praise?! Shouldn’t we bow to His glory?! Clear the pathway of your heart, the Master commands attention! Let’s transform our mind-the Creator of the Universe needs His space! And He desires to take residence in YOU, hallelujah!
Making room for the Lord, makes Him center stage of our lives. It all begins with our hearts, then it heads to our minds, and manifests into action.
(Another sister in Christ wrote an post about hiding and seeking-I had to mention it, the Holy Spirit moves in mighty ways! Check her post out here: Hide and Seek)
Maybe you are hiding from a major conflict…
Maybe you are hiding from God’s mission for your life…
Maybe you are hiding from hurt and pain…
Maybe you are hiding because someone is pursuing you…
Sister, it is time to stop hiding! It is time for you to come out from that spot behind that rock, behind that tree-it is time for you to seek the Lord and come forward! The Lord is waiting for you to stop running. He is waiting for you to stop using that job, those vain things, and that relationship to block yourself from being all that the Lord has created you to be!
The time for hiding is over. Now it is time to seek the Lord. Pursue Him relentlessly. Be after His heart. Strive for His Will. Seek His face. Seek His purpose for your life. Seek His plan for your life. Our children and our children’s children need us to come out of hiding. Our souls need us to come our of hiding. Why? So that we can experience abundant life, so that we can be set free of toxicity, so that we can be free.
We may be feeling disenchanted and discouraged. We may be experiencing discontentment so we run to our secret hiding place. We run to a place where we can wear masks and be someone we are not. It is time to come forth and live.

Everyone has a “primetime”-that time of day when you are at your optimal best. For some, it’s the morning and others, it’s the evening. During this primetime, you get an large task accomplished-whether it’s cleaning or working out. We typically commit our primetime to the task that may be most challenging or tedious.
We may call that our primetime, we can also refer to it as our first fruit. The best part of our day is given so that we can get the job done. What about our relationship with God? What part of our day do we commit to Him? Do you give the Lord the firstfruit of your day? If we don’t, we should. Lets look to the Word:
This is not to say that we should not honor the Lord with our whole day, continuously praying and seeking His face. However, it’s that set apart and special time that transforms us and our day! The best parts of our day positions us to hear Him clearly. The first fruit is the sacrifice of our day and time to place Him first in our life and the center of our hearts. And looks at what the Lord gives in return?! “…Barns that are filled with plenty andvatsthat are bursting with wine.”
The Word of God charges us to seek His face early in the morning and to meditate on His Word day and night. It’s the first fruits that tells God that He is worth our best. It’s not about the length of time, it is about the quality of time. We must position ourselves to spend quality time with our Father. And as we submit our best to Him, as we become intimate with our Savior, we are prepared to receive His best! There is power is handing the Lord your God, the best part of you. He longs to be close to us all as we are His children and the apple of His eye.
Let’s honor the Lord our wealth and first fruit: it’s so much more powerful than our money-it’s about our time.
Adolescents spend their teen years learning about who they are and how to define themselves. Without the proper foundation and a solid support system, an crisis may occur. The crisis may resolve itself with some tender, love, and care from the right support. The crisis may resolve itself as the adolescent, or young adult, enters into a new environment. However, without a firm foundation and accountability, that crisis may extend into adulthood.
Some people spend their whole lives trying to figure out who they are. Some find their identity in their career. Others may find their identity in their spouse. For some, it’s their bank accounts and for others, it may be their children. At times, the people of God may find their identities in their title or position in the church. Friends, all these things will fade away.
The title, the children, and the spouse-all are temporary. We must find our identities in Christ or we too will experience a crisis! Friends, this is not the time for a crisis. People are perishing-we simply do not have time to wrap ourselves in careers and money. The lost and dying world need to know that we belong to Christ! They need to know that we are children of the Lord God Almighty! They need us to be the planter or the waterer that the Good Lord made us to be.
Why? Let’s look to the Word:
Someone you know needs a new life. Someone you know needs to know about a Man named Jesus! Someone you know is lonely and needs to know that there is One who longs to be their friend. Someone you know needs to know about that their past does not have to define who they are today. They need to know that their story can be re-written and with Christ, it includes a Savior who saves us!
Our identity tends to establish our priorities. Let’s not live for the title or the position, let’s live for God through Jesus Christ! He is our solid rock and our firm foundation-He is the Chief Cornerstone! In Him, we have solid support and He blesses us with incredible community. We belong to the Lord our God!
As we know WHO we are and WHOSE we are, we can freely share about who He is!
