Experiences + Emotions = …

We are a people gifted with emotions. Think about a certain movie, perhaps one that makes you cry. Maybe there is one that makes you laugh. A certain experience will produce certain emotion. And that’s simply how we are crafted.

Think about the last or sermon you heard. You probably left service ready to go and change the world or ready to start a ministry that day! But let a few days go by and the feeling fades away.

Our time with the Lord has to move beyond experiences and emotions. Once the tears stop flowing, the fire dies down in our bellies, and we stand up after being knocked off our feet by the Word, what happens next? The emotions are appropriate and we need the experiences, and after both are done, we need the lifestyle change.

We must transition from experiences and emotions to transformations…

In the presence of the Lord, we must be transformed. Each time we enter into His presence, we come out better, stronger, and wiser. We come out prepared for whatever fiery darts awaits us.

Experience + emotions must equal transformation. Transformation is that change that lasts. It keeps the fire lit, it starts that book you long to write, and it ignites that ministry that will change your community!

Don’t let the power just fall away. Let your quiet time empower you for the day ahead, not just the moment. Prayer should embolden you for the obstacles ahead.

Be transformed.

The Power of Worship

There is a song called “I Surrender All”. There are numerous versions of the song, all of them are beautiful. Its a worship song that really speaks to the heart. It speaks about giving all to Jesus and trusting Him with our everything.

One version, by Israel Houghton says: “All to Jesus I surrender, All to Him I freely give…”

What if worship goes beyond singing, raising hands and crying during church? How do we worship God everyday? Let’s look to the Word…

The Message version of Romans 12:1 gives an enlightening view of worship: “So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering…”

Let’s consider another version of the same text: The New King James version of Romans 12:1 expresses: “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.”

Worship is active, worship happens everyday! Worship is surrendering all: our cares, concerns, and celebrations. Worship is offering every inch of our being and placing it into the Master’s hands.

Because we are living and moving beings, we cannot just do a one time offering. No, my friend, every day, multiple times a day, we must lay ourselves down onto the altar. Every time you wanna yell at someone who cut you off in traffic but choose to be at peace is a sacrifice. Every brag someone has about the work you’ve done but choose to give God the glory is an offering. Every ache that just appears out of nowhere but you choose to think about God’s promise to heal is worshipping Him and not that pain. Sis, you are a living sacrifice. And every time you hand the Father a piece of you, you express that He is greater, He is magnificent, He is holy, He is marvelous, and He is in control.

So uncover those hidden places, give the Lord about that worry, give Him that celebration, He wants it all. Trust Him with your burdens and your blessings.

So, the next time you sing: “I surrender all…” It will be a true act of worship.
