Abound.

Abound: exist (or have) in large amounts or numbers.

Have you ever said to yourself? This day will be the pits and it turns out to be a pit-full day. Have you said that your job is stressing you out? And it turns out, you are stressed. Maybe you say the statement, hoping that it would not come to pass. However, it will only because you have spoke it.

What you say, will abound.

What you speak over your life, will exist in large amounts or numbers. When the Lord spoke, life abound. It existed in large amounts. Go back to Genesis 1 and see what His words produced. Now, because we are were created in the image of God, what you say will simply be. Your words have power! Your words will produce life and death! Your words will abound.

What do you call cursed? It will never bear fruit. What do you call a failure? You will never see it succeed. What do you call dead? It will never see life. What you say will abound!

What are you speaking over your life? The fruit will tell it all. You have what you say. We must watch what we say, for it will grow and manifest. Declare today what will abound in your life! If the Lord chooses to use words so that grace, mercy, and blessings abound, what don’t we? If the Lord chooses to use words that promoted life to exist in large amounts, so should we!

This isn’t prosperity gospel nor is this about naming and claiming, this is about us realizing that our words have power! This is beyond material possessions and worldly treasures. This is about ensuring that we have the promises of God abounding in our lives.

What you say, will abound. So here at Sisters Helping Sisters, for everyone who encounters this devotional, here is what we declare over your life: May grace abound. May prosperity abound. May love abound. May peace abound. May joy abound. May kindness abound. May patience abound. May healing abound. May favor abound.

Lay It Down…

Remember peer editing from grade school? You would switch papers with your peer and they would edit your work? Some teachers would let you pick your peer, others would pick the peer for you. Sometimes the comments were nice and sometimes they were not.

In other words, you chose to be offended. That’s right, being offended is a choice! That’s a hard pill to digest because people can be downright mean and our feelings may even be justified but our response to the situation can make all the difference.

Offenses are thrown at our feet everyday. Someone cuts us off in traffic, another criticize our method of doing something, and some folks are in a bad mood so they are simply determined to make us feel bad as well. What remains is that the choice to be offended is yours. Will you transition the criticism to constructive feedback? Will you show grace and let that person who wants to cut you off in traffic into your lane? Will you pray for that person who have a bad day?

The answer is naturally found in scripture…

As the offense lay at your feet, choose to leave it there. And if you picked it up, lay it back down! We must consider the root of an issue before we respond. Is the person having the bad day in need of prayer? Could the constructive feedback give us a new way of doing the task? The person rushing and cutting folks off in traffic could be rushing to get to a loved one. While it’s not right for people to be mean and cruel, we must know that our response can be the catalyst for change!

Picking up the offense is easy and it gives us permission to moan and complain about someone doing us wrong. However, once it’s done, what’s next? However, choosing to lay down the offense can bring someone to Christ!

Your choice to forgive and to overlook an offense demonstrates the power of God at work in you and can draw someone to Christ! Forgiveness can accomplish more than being offended. We must lay it down-lay down the hurt, lay down the pain, lay down the offense!

Whatever you do, do not take the offense!

Show those who seek to offend you how strong you are by laying down the offense! Demonstrate to those who are out to offend that God has transformed and change your life and the old self is gone away! Your extension of forgiveness is a powerful witnessing tool. The extension of grace just shows how much grace has been extended to you by the Lord Almighty!

Lay down that weight of offense, my friend, it is not yours to carry.

The Hands of the Lord…

Ezra repeatedly mentions how the “hand of God” was upon him as he was leading the third group of exiles back to Judah/Jerusalem.

If you have a little one or perhaps have cared for one, think about why you have your hands on them. Perhaps you are guiding them as they are learning how to walk, perhaps you are teaching them how to do an activity, or maybe you are simply showing them that you care for them. Either way, your hands signified love and direction.

This was true for Ezra and this is true for you. Ezra 7 details how the “good hand of his God was on him”. This hand gave him the confidence to ask for what he needed to get back to Jerusalem. He was provided with confidence, courage and provision for the journey. This is how you know that Ezra was headed in the right direction.

Ezra’s story is also proof on how you will know that the Lord has His hands on you. You will receive the courage you need, you will receive the confidence you need, and you will receive the provision you need for your journey! You will receive the favor of “kings” because the good hand of the Lord, your God, is upon you!

His hands lets you know that you are in His plan.

You are protected with the hands of the Lord. His hands will protect you from the snare of your enemy. His hands shield the fiery arrows that frequently come your way. You are loved with the hands of the Lord. Just like your hand was held by your caregiver and loved one, you are guided by the hand of the Lord, your God.

As you walk in His purpose and plan, you are led by His hand.

Order My Steps…

Have you ever given a child a set of instructions? Only to realize that they have no idea how to do what you’ve asked them to do. Perhaps it’s cleaning up their toys or putting away their shoes. If they have never done it before, they have to be shown (probably multiple times) how to do so.

We should rejoice that we have a Father who will provide us with detailed instructions, guidance and wisdom on how to do what He has called us to do. When Solomon was instructed to build the Temple, he was provided with instructions from his father David and from the Lord. The Lord ordered his steps. Not only did the Lord establish his steps, He provided the natural and supernatural things needed in order to complete such as a monumental task.

As we approach any task that He has created us to do, we must allow Him to order our steps according to His Word:

When we allow the Lord to guide our steps, we are allowing Him to take control of our purpose and mission. When we seek His face for the appropriate method, we are filled with wisdom and discernment. The Lord is needed for success, we cannot do it without Him! Having the Lord order our steps requires for us to decrease so that He may increase.

With ordered steps, we can fulfill the plans of the Lord. It is only His plans that will prevail: “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails.” Proverbs 19:21

Heart Healthy Diet…

There are specific foods that are good for the heart: Green veggies, whole wheat, berries, fish, and the list goes on. A heart healthy diet also includes stress management and exercise. The attention that the heart receives is vital because if it stops, we stop.

This natural fact is also a spiritual truth. The heart is of great importance because the “issues of life flow from it” Proverbs 4:23. So how do we maintain a healthy heart in the supernatural?

We stand guard: The heart is delicate and must be protected at all times. We can control what penetrates the heart by guarding our ear and eye gates. We must be careful in what and who we are listening to and what we are watching. Has listening to a sad love song ever made you sad? The heart wasn’t guarded. Have you ever watched something aggressive made you feel some type of way? You weren’t guarding your heart.

Weigh the weight of our words: The words we say and the words we digest affect the condition of our heart. There is “life and death in the power of the death” and to maintain a healthy heart, we must be mindful of the words we say. “Anxiety wears the heart down but a kind word cheers it up” Proverbs 12:25.

Choose Crosses Carefully: Ask yourself, is the cross you are bearing, yours to bear? Sometimes we try to carry the weight of the world on our shoulders, which destroys the heart. The burdens of the world were never intended for our shoulders or our heart. The cares of our world should be placed at the Lord’s feet.

Maintaining a healthy heart creates a space for the Lord to plant His purpose, His will, and His mission for our life. Having a healthy heart purifies the wellspring of life. A healthy heart is the good soil needed to hear and understand God’s Word.

If you find your needing a healthy heart, anchor yourself here:

Faint Not…

“Life aint no crystal stair…” Langston Hughes

It tends to hit us left and right. We can let the adversities of life beat us down or lift us up. The choice is ours. However, we don’t have to wonder about what to do. The Word of God gives us direction for every situation. Let’s consider what the Lord says:

“If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small.” Proverbs 24:10 ESV

Seems like a choice is set before us, we can faint or not faint. “Fainting” can be synonymous with complaining, worrying, and stressing yourself out. According to the Word, fainting means our strength is small. Not with the God we serve!

Sis, we want to encourage you to faint not! Faint not when the struggles of life come up against you! Life must be encountered not in our own strength, but in the strength of our Creator! My friend, you are powered with the Holy Spirit!

Struggles, adversity, and suffering are promised to us as followers of Christ. And because we are children of God, we have been gifted with an adversary, but faint not! The battle has already been won! In Christ, you are victorious! In Christ, you are more than a conqueror. And in Christ, there is nothing small about you!

As you deal with the difficulties of life, be encouraged by this truth…

Life is amazing, complex, and tough, but faint not sis, you got this. Not by your might nor your power but by His Spirit.

Possessing the Victory…

The battle has already been won. Christ, the Victor, stands strong. He has conquered death, Hell, and the grave. No longer do we have to wonder if there is life after death, Christ has answered that question for us.

If Christ possessed the victory, why won’t we? If we are children of the Most High and joint heirs with Christ, then why won’t we attach ourselves to the victory that is in Jesus Christ? He is our Savior, He has saved us! In Him we are redeemed. In Him, we too, have won!

Possessing the victory is a mindset. Its transitioning from surviving to thriving. It’s letting go of stinky thinking. It’s speaking life. It’s seeing with our faith instead of our eyes. It’s acknowledging the victory each and every day as we square up against our enemy.

So as we suit up in our armor (see Ephesians 6:10-18), we no longer have to wonder if we are going to win the battle. We can stand confidently knowing that victory is already ours. The armor is for our protection against our adversary. The armor helps us acknowledge our victor, Jesus Christ. In Him, we live, we move, we have our being, and in Him, we always win.

So possess your victory today! Stand firm in the Lord. Be strong and courageous! Know that everything that comes against you will fall because our victory rests in the Lord (Proverbs 21:31) and it cannot be snatched away.
