Their god to the Lord God…

Your life change a person’s life. Yep, yours. You may begin to reflect and see the tons of mistakes or rough choices that you’ve made and begin to number the reasons why that isn’t not true. But quite the contrary friend! The Lord can (and probably already have) use your life to be transformative!

You matter to your sphere of influence. Let’s look at Jonah. (This is a very abbreviated version!) He’s commanded by the Lord to go and preach to the people of Nineveh. Scared and unwillingly, he hops in a boat for elsewhere. A storm comes, those on the boat begin to cry out, “each to their god”:

“Then the mariners were afraid, and each cried out to his god. And they hurled the cargo that was in the ship into the sea to lighten it for them. But Jonah had gone down into the inner part of the ship and had lain down and was fast asleep.” ‭‭Jonah‬ ‭1:5‬ ‭

They cried out to a “little g”, someone who did not have the capability to save them. However, these men were not blind, they could discern that there was someone in their presence that could impact their situation for the better. Jonah was there, it was the Lord to whom they bowed. These unbelieving men cried out to the Lord because of the presence of Jonah:

See the transition?! They went from the little g to the One who could save their life! Jonah’s disobedience lead these men to cry out to the Living God! Now, this is not approving sin or disobedience-not at all! This passage of scripture tells us that we can be used to plant the Word of God into those who do not believe. This Word tells believers that they can water seeds already planted. We don’t know which of the men on the boat received salvation. But what we do know is that God’s name were on their lips.

You may say that you aren’t equipped. You may even be running right now from the Lord. Friend, you can ALWAYS be used by the Lord to bring forth salvation. Believe the Lord when He says that your light will shine in darkness. Believe the Lord when He tells you that your life matters. Believe the Lord when He leads you to call that unsaved loved one or encourage others, you can be the catalyst to introduce someone to Christ!

Know that no matter what you’ve done or what has been done to you, you can be used by the Lord for His glory and your good!

The Mission…

Most professions have a mission statement. Doctors have the Hippocratic Oath. Police officers are sworn to protect and serve. Each branch of the military have their own mission statement. Every position within the organizations has been created to serve the mission of the agency. Think about your job or career? It is in line to serve the mission of that organization, but does it serve YOUR mission?

No matter your profession, your lives have a purpose. We have been created for a mission. What is your mission statement? Is everything in your life crafted around your mission statement? The beauty of the body of Christ is that while our operations may vary, our mission is same: to minister the Gospel of Jesus Christ. And why do we minister? It’s found here:

Each our ministries are beautiful and unique but all exist to elevate Christ and to submit to the Lord our God. Your blog can disciple. Your artwork can disciple. Your nonprofit can disciple. Your hobbies, your integrity, and the way you care for your family can disciple.

Everything in our lives must draw us and others to Christ. Your self-care gives you the energy you need to illuminate Christ. The food you eat serves as fuel so that you can continue to do the work of the Lord-so that you can make disciples. The clothes you wear can disciple as well.

The mission cannot be forsaken and we must be vigilant about the mission. We must evaluate and dispose of anything that does not represent the mission of Jesus Christ in our lives. We must ask the Lord to help stay true to our assignment in Him.

So, my friend, what’s your mission statement?

The Response…

Remember your mother or father calling your name? Some parents required “ma’am” or “sir”. Some parents required a “yes” not a “yea”. Most parents would not accept a “what”. And most parents would not accept silence. Either way, every call from your caregiver requires a response.

How do you respond to the Lord when He calls your name? Do you say “here I am Lord”? Or do you run and hide? When the Father calls, a response is required. His call is more important than any call you will ever receive in your life. His call warrants you to move swiftly and quickly. His call will be the one that changes your life.

The story of Samuel models our appropriate response to the Lord:

Our response should be that of Samuel. As He calls our name, our response should revere the Father. Our response requires humility as the Lord is about to speak life into our life. Our response should be swift as we hear our name.

Our relationships with earthly caregivers can shape our response to the Father. Depending on our upbringing, the call of our parents can put fear into us, but we shouldn’t be afraid of God our Father. Sometimes the call of our parents was often followed by criticisms and unkind words but our Father will not hurt us with His words. He will sing songs of joy over us. His call will heal us and not hurt us. His call will make us whole.

What will be your response to the Father?

Freedom…

There are some fights that repeat themselves over and over again-the battle to remain silent when you want to speak, the struggle not to overindulge on that favorite food, the fight to remain steadfast in prayer. And the list goes on.

However, there are some encounters that you won’t have to fight again. Remember when you conquered that fear of speaking in public? Or perhaps that first flight? Maybe you’ve conquered that fear of roller coasters. Whatever it may be, that first fight was the only fight.

There is freedom in realizing that there are some battles you will not have to engage in again. For those whom are married, your season of first dates are over. For those who are mothers and are done have children, those labor pains are done for you!

Let’s go deeper, there are some enemies, there are some things that go bump in the night that you worry about, that you fear-and the Lord has set you free from experiencing those things again. Never again will you have to encounter that one who hurt you. Never again will you want to hurt yourself because you’ve been healed and made whole. Never again will you have to be a slave to a bottle or pills.

The Word tells us so:

Freedom is found in not fearing. Freedom is found in standing firm. Freedom is found in seeing the salvation of the Lord. Your Egyptians are done for! Egypt represented a place of bondage and slavery for the children of Israel. What represents your Egypt? Make it personal and speak that declaration over your life!

For the addiction you see today, you shall never see again if you stand firm, fear not, and see the salvation of the Lord!

For the low self-esteem you see today, you shall never see again if you stand firm, fear not, and see the salvation of the Lord!

The struggle you have with being all that God has called you to be may be visible today, but if you fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord-you shall never have that struggle again!

It’s time to be free, my friend! Leave those “Egyptians” behind and press onward towards the mark which is in Christ Jesus!

It’s the Little Things…

Have you ever had a little string hanging from your sweater? You went to go and pull it and it ruined the whole sweater! The little things, sometimes, can ruin the whole thing! Think about a run in your stockings? Left unattended, the stockings no longer become useful.

The little things can be destructive if we ignore them. The Word of God reminds us of this truth:

Something that is growing and flourishing can be destroyed by the little things, the little foxes. Baby foxes may be cute in appearance but destructive by nature. We have to be careful about who and what we are letting into our vineyard.

Song of Songs was all about romance and love. Perhaps there the vineyard is marriage, for others, it may be ministry or business. Perhaps the vineyard can represent our spirit. Whatever the interpretation, we have to be mindful of the little things!

Have you examined your circle? Have you examined your sphere of influence? Have the foxes slipped in? Discernment is so important for the body of Christ! We have to be able to accurately discern who and what may be the fox in our life and cast them out. We must be careful about what we are allowing into our spirit because the Lord is planting a harvest and it can be destroyed by the little foxes.

Little foxes can be procrastination, laziness, lying, and gossip. A little fox may be the extra time spent of social media. A fox could be that movie, that YouTube clip, or that song that we know isn’t good for our spirit. Perhaps it’s that distraction that has taken us completely from our purpose.

Let’s be attentive about who and what gets our time. Our harvest will build up the kingdom of God! Our vineyard will honor the Father. Our blooming field will be ripe for good seed which is the Word of God. Catch the little foxes, friends, they may come but they don’t have to ruin the fruit. Those foxes do not have to have power over us!

Every good thing isn’t a God thing! Watch out for the little foxes in your life…

Discernment.

Discernment is all about judging well, deciphering the difference between varying statements. Discernment is all about understanding the correct way to go. Think about the job searching process. We look for places of employment that align with our credentials, our degrees, and our work experiences. We discern which place of employment is best for us. We use discernment every day in some way, from deciding which brand of detergent to use to what route we want to take to our destinations.

However, the one use of discernment above all else is deciding about what is of the Lord and what is not. This gift of discerning the voice of the Lord will saves you from a road that is not intended for you. Discerning the voice of the Lord helps you understand the way you should go. Discernment connects you to your mission and purpose.

Discernment, as a follower of Jesus Christ, is vital and essential to our Christian walk. Our very active adversary wants you to go his way, follow his path. However, he is a complete and total liar who is out to steal, kill, and destroy. We must be aware of him and his false prophets.

Does the decision you are trying to make align with the will of God? Is that job aligned with God’s assignment for your life? You must have the gift of discernment to know for sure! We must know the voice of the Lord!

And how do we learn that? How do we obtain the gift of discernment? We go to the Lord! We seek His face. We read His Word. We spend time communicating with Him. We fast. We submit. We choose to fall deeper in love with God each and every day. We humble ourselves before Him. We follow His commandments.

This, friends, is how we receive that level of discernment that has us rebuking the false prophets that will come. This gift shields us from the lies of Satan. Discernment has us in line with God’s will. This discernment protects us, guides us, and saves us.

May we all grow in discernment so that we can filter all of our choices and decisions through the lens of Jesus Christ.

The Assignment…

If you have ever worked for a grant funded agency, you know the importance of a well-crafted report that ensures that your organization remains funded. While it may have a variety of names, it’s ultimately an assignment. The assignment is to detail how your agency has spent its money, the successes you’ve had, and it lays out the plan for the next year or few years. Everything hangs on the success completion of that assignment.

This rings true as a believer. Your assignment matters more than anything else this world has to offer. It is more valuable than any amount of money that can be offered to you. And this assignment has eternal ramifications. All that you do hangs on the assignment. This is why it is important to know that you have been called according to His purpose that works out for your good.

What is your assignment? You have a plan and a purpose for your life. Whether you realize it or not, you have been called to do a mighty work for the Lord. This is the plan He has for you, to fulfill His assignment for you. Being pleasing in the sight of the Lord, is worth more than any salary you can bring home. Everything you do must align with God’s assignment for you.

The assignment is the goal, the mission, and the purpose. The assignment is the endgame. Everything in your life must be centered around the work that the Lord, our God, has for us to complete. This keeps us Kingdom minded. This keeps our sights set on Him. This causes Him to increase and us to decrease.

So we ask, what is your assignment? What have you been crafted to do for the Lord? Once this is discovered, everything you do makes sense, gives you purpose, and puts you one step closer to hearing the ultimate reward: “well done, good and servant”

Unto the Lord…

Think about a gloomy Saturday afternoon. You have the option to either use the day for cleaning or use the day to lounge around-what do you choose? Why do you make the choice you do? Are you cleaning because you want to make sure your home is clean or are you cleaning because you feel ashamed when you don’t? Are you choosing to lounge around because you had a hard week and you need the self-care or because you are just being lazy?

Neither choice is necessarily a bad thing, however, you must consider to whom you are making the choice. If you clean, is it out of service to your family? If you lounge around, is it for self-care and good mental health? Consider to who would be the beneficiary of the choice.

As you preach, as you write, as you serve in the 20 ministries at church-to whom are you dedicating your time, effort, and energy? Is it to the Pastor or to the fellow church members? Is it to the number of likes? Or is it unto the Lord?

Consider this exhortation:

If we are not serving the Lord, all this is in vain. Yes we want people to be drawn to Christ and sure, we enjoy helping others but our service must be to the Lord, alone. If we are more concerned with likes or people, your time and effort goes wasted. There is no one on the Earth that has a Heaven or a Hell to put us in, therefore, our service cannot and should not be unto anyone but the Lord, our God. He, alone, is the Author and Finisher of our faith. He, alone, is Alpha and Omega. He, alone, deserves all of the glory.

Unto the Lord is our life’s mission statement. Unto the Lord is the reason behind our decisions. We clean because in our service to our families, we are working unto the Lord. We take care of ourselves with mental health days because we are attending to our temple for the Lord’s sake. Unto the Lord has to be our drive or we are working in vain.

Why are you doing what you do-unto man or unto the Lord?

Let It Flow…

Is your land flowing with milk and honey? Milk and honey represents good health, prosperity, and wealth. Milk and honey, from a spiritual perspective, can also be identified as wisdom, revelation, and discernment. The phrasing of “milk and honey” may be an Old Testament concept but it still stands as a promise for the children of God. And your land is natural and supernatural. Naturally, your land can be considered to be your place of employment or your home. Supernaturally, your land could be your mind and your heart.

So, we go back to the question, is your land flowing with milk and honey? Or do you find your flow obstructed? What’s impeding your flow? Is it distractions? Are you connected to toxic relationships? Does your home need order? Is the leadership you are under, professionally or otherwise, questionable?

All these things can prevent you from entering into a land flowing with milk and honey. The children of Israel struggled with entering into their promised land due to their stubbornness, rebellious nature, and being ungrateful. We cannot look on them with too much judgment, as being in this world of sin, we are apt to fall into the same patterns as the Israelites.

So examine your flow, examine the possible obstructions, and take note. Pruning, purging, fasting, and much prayer will remove those obstructions. Submission unto the Lord helps our land continue to flow. Hold on to the promise the Lord has for your promised land:

Pursue the land that produces revelation, pursue the land that produces wisdom, pursue the land that produces healing and prosperity-a land that flows with milk and honey.

Show and Prove…

Faith requires action. Have you ever heard yourself saying, “I believe God”? If so, how do you live that out? Are your next steps bold and brave or small and scared? Are you moving beyond “hoping” the Lord hear your prayers to knowing that He hears your prayers? Do you speak His promises loud and proud or nervously?

Faith is an action word. You must say AND do! After you shout, “I believe you God”, you must live out that statement. You must be willing to trust God in a big way! You have to start writing, start filming, and start walking.

Believing God for healing? You must be committed to a healthier lifestyle. Believing God for the business? Start taking those classes. Believing God for a husband? Begin preparing yourself to be a wife. We must show and prove! We actively demonstrate our faith in God by preparing ourselves for the move of God. We must prove that we trust God by beginning to execute the vision He provides.

Without the work, faith is dead. The Word tells us so…

Active faith testifies to the capability of God. Make no mistake, He is GOOD and CAPABLE all by Himself! However, a world that does not know Him will never know just how amazing He is if we do not operate as the ambassadors and high priests we are. Our faith is used to testify of His Good News. Our faith eloquently preaches the Gospel of Jesus Christ! It’s time to show and prove to a dying and fear-filled world! Show and prove by your works! Those steps lead to a testimony of our Father!

Friends, your prayers and preparation tell of your faith. Your focus and drive speaks to the faithfulness of Christ our Lord. Your commitment, no matter what they say and what you see, echoes the message of the cross.

It’s time to show and prove!
