Armored Up Wednesdays: Rest

‘Tis the season, right? This season is usually full of shopping, family, cleaning, and yummy food-rarely does rest come into the equation. Even though many job places are intentional about giving employees time off, school shuts down, and many operations cease during this time-rest is rarely on the agenda.

Mighty warrior, the rest of the world may be hustling and bustling during this time but we cannot afford to do so. Everything we do, must be from a place of rest. The enemy wants to see us weary and worn! When wearied, we become reckless with our words, our quiet time disappears, and we become less compassionate.

Our victory is obtained through resting in our Savior, the One who won the battle for us. Being rested means abiding in the risen Savior. Resting is choosing to focus on Him instead of the newest and shiniest material possession. Resting in Jesus is less about having the nicest decorations and more about savoring time with loved ones. Rest is functioning from love instead of obligation.

Being well-rested is a powerful tool in our spiritual warfare! We are able to hear the Lord better, able to focus more, and we are able to operate from a place of wisdom.

We talk about rest on our newest podcast! Check out a snippet here:

As you enjoy the sights and sounds of the season, let’s commit to focusing on this powerful promise of the Lord: “Are you weary, carrying a heavy burden? Come to me. I will refresh your life, for I am your oasis. Simply join your life with mine. Learn my ways and you’ll discover that I’m gentle, humble, easy to please. You will find refreshment and rest in me.” Matthew‬ ‭11:28-29‬ ‭TPT‬‬

Just Ask…

Moms, Aunties, Caregivers: Remember how it was letting your little one get dressed all on their own? You are running behind but you need to let the little one learn how to get dressed by themselves. And they can be quite persistent, right? They may have a tantrum or cry, but they are determined to do it all on their own. And you are standing there, patiently waiting (or impatiently waiting…), thinking to yourself, if only they would ask me for help, I could help them out.

Can’t help but to wonder if the Father is standing there looking at us, as we cry, tantrum, and throw a whole fit, trying to figure out our problem. We can’t help but to wonder if the Father looks at us saying: If only they asked for help, I could help them.

That pesky spirit of control can be such a hindrance to our heart’s desires. If we would bow to the Father and lay down our challenges, our struggles, and weaknesses, imagine what the Lord our God could do for us! Imagine if we simply surrendered and asked the Lord for help, what could be accomplished.

There is power in asking the Father for help. He is that patient parent, just waiting for us to surrender. He is that loving Savior who wants to see us abundantly blessed. He longs to be Lord over every inch of our lives. The Father is not here to see us struggle, when He holds the world in His hands. The Creator of the Universe is not in place to see His children forsaken.

Ask the Holy Spirit for guidance. Ask the Lord to help you finish that book. Ask the Lord to release healing onto that hurting loved one. Ask the Father to increase your finances. Seek the Savior for that new job.

Just ask…

Empty Cup…

“You cannot pour from an empty cup.” Author Unknown

For those in helping professions, you may have heard of this quote before and it’s true! It is hard to serve when you aren’t full. It usually points to a need for self-care.

This quote is also relevant for believers. We cannot minister from an empty cup. And yes, it usually points to the need for self-care. The world tells us that a nap, exercise, and massages will refill our cups and we can get back on the job. However, for us who follow Christ, self-care means something a little different, it means that we must run to the feet of the Savior. Let’s look to the Word:

Before you go and take a nap, before you hit the trail, and before you schedule the mani/pedi-seek the kingdom! Ask the Lord to fill your cup, let Him know that you are running on empty. He longs to meet the desires of your heart. He wants to see you full of strength and power to run the race well.

When we are weak, He is strong! The Lord is the Living Water-when we are thirsty, if we seek Him, we don’t ever have to thirst again. Let’s stop wiping the droplets of an empty cup, hoping that it will suffice-it won’t. We need to seek the Lord, He is the best way in which we can care for ourselves!

Seek the Savior so you can truly enjoy that sweet rest. Seek the Savior so that He can power you for that amazing workout session. Seek the Savior so that you can truly have a clear mind as you take that mental health day.

Fill that empty cup with the sweetness of the Savior!

The Mission…

Most professions have a mission statement. Doctors have the Hippocratic Oath. Police officers are sworn to protect and serve. Each branch of the military have their own mission statement. Every position within the organizations has been created to serve the mission of the agency. Think about your job or career? It is in line to serve the mission of that organization, but does it serve YOUR mission?

No matter your profession, your lives have a purpose. We have been created for a mission. What is your mission statement? Is everything in your life crafted around your mission statement? The beauty of the body of Christ is that while our operations may vary, our mission is same: to minister the Gospel of Jesus Christ. And why do we minister? It’s found here:

Each our ministries are beautiful and unique but all exist to elevate Christ and to submit to the Lord our God. Your blog can disciple. Your artwork can disciple. Your nonprofit can disciple. Your hobbies, your integrity, and the way you care for your family can disciple.

Everything in our lives must draw us and others to Christ. Your self-care gives you the energy you need to illuminate Christ. The food you eat serves as fuel so that you can continue to do the work of the Lord-so that you can make disciples. The clothes you wear can disciple as well.

The mission cannot be forsaken and we must be vigilant about the mission. We must evaluate and dispose of anything that does not represent the mission of Jesus Christ in our lives. We must ask the Lord to help stay true to our assignment in Him.

So, my friend, what’s your mission statement?

Prayer Warriors Unite!

Operating together is so much more powerful than standing alone. Being connected with someone helps us watch each other backs. Operating together helps the job get done faster. And it is nice to know that you are not alone.

The Word shows us the power of praying together:

Prayer warriors, it is time to unite! This is the intended design of the Lord. Look at what happens what we unite in prayer:

“Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” Matthew‬ ‭18:18‬

If what we are seeing in the world, in our communities and in our homes are bothering us, call up your prayer partner and pray! We all like to vent or fuss, but with another believer, we are able to bind and loose! We are able to declare, decree, and rebuke! It’s time to bind those generational curses and loose blessings! It’s time to bind confusion and loose clarity! Unite prayer warriors!

“Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.” Matthew‬ ‭18:19‬

Agreement produces acceptance! When the Lord hears His children crying out in unison, He responds! It’s not about the millions, it’s about the two! Prayer warriors, imagine the prayers that will be answered if we pray with and for one another. The Lord is actively demonstrating the beauty of community.

Unity in prayer produces the presence of the Lord! We were created for relationship and two believers united in prayer will draw the Lord to them. Imagine the Creator of the Universe enjoying the sweet sounds of your prayers as we unite.

Let’s stand together, locked in arms, seeking the face of the Father for healing, peace, and love!

It’s time for us to unite, prayer warriors!

Can we pray for you? Let us know in the comments or send an email here:

The presence of you…

“Every place you enter into should be better because you are there.” W. Floyd

Seeing the quote above may make us feel better about ourselves and we should feel great about ourselves! We are pretty wonderful in every way! However, the statement above isn’t about us at all, it’s about the light within us:

We are called into certain places and spaces because our light is needed! And that light comes from God through Jesus Christ by way of the Holy Spirit. You, my friend, are a light that must not be hidden! It is the light that dwells within you that the world needs to see Christ!

You may wonder why you are working alongside people with issues or just downright mean folks-it’s your light that is needed. Maybe you are in a profession that consistently connects you to hurting people-they need your light. Perhaps you find yourself encountering the same homeless person every day as you run errands-they need your light!

The presence of you as a blood washed, born again believer, can point the lost and hurting to Christ Jesus! Are you letting your light shine? Are you being kind? Do you whisper a prayer for a person? Do you choose joy? Are you showing love?

Your deeds will draw others to our Father in Heaven! So don’t let anyone tell you that you don’t matter! Don’t let anyone tell you that what you do, doesn’t matter! Don’t let anyone discredit your presence! Your presence matters to a dying world!

The Lord has placed you at your job, in your family, and at that specific grocery store for such a time as this! The presence of you makes a place better because of the light within you!

So shine, my sister! Be bright! Show love! Exude joy! Choose to be kind! Pray those bold prayers! Be grateful and thankful! You an ambassador for Jesus Christ, the presence of you makes any space or place better because He is within you!

Make this your personal mission as you go on your way: “This little light of mine, Im gonna let it shine”!

False Sense of Security…

“Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and rely on horses, who trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel or consult the Lord.” Isaiah‬ ‭31:1‬ ‭

Horses and chariots aren’t necessarily our cup of tea nowadays. Many of us don’t possess those items and if we do, they aren’t for war or fighting. Now, our horses may substituted for our home, cars, or life insurance. Now, our chariots may be considered our salaries and our degrees.

No one is saying that you shouldn’t try to obtain these things. We do have earthly needs. However, our sense of security should not be found in these things. If we lost our jobs, many of us would struggle with feeling secure. If we lost our cars, we may have a difficult time adjusting without it.

Horses, cars, chariots, and jobs offer a false sense of security. These things will not save us. These things are not our salvation. Just because we have a job, does not mean we are any better than someone who does not have a job. Our nice car does not give us a heavenly advantage over someone else.

Our possessions does not mean we will win the war. Do not find your worth, self-esteem, or confidence in things. They are temporal. They will fade and pass away. You can be decked out in jewels and designer brands and be failing spiritually.

Friends, let’s find our security in the One who is greater than anyone or anything this world can offer. Our security must be anchored in the One who defeated death, hell, and the grave. Let your possessions be what they are: just temporary, just materials, just things that will fade and rust.

Our treasure, our security is not found here on Earth.

We must look up: “but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.” Matthew‬ ‭6:20‬ ‭

Heaven contains our hope, our security, and our salvation. May we look to the Lord for our security, our joy, and our peace.

Stay the Course…

We know the road has been tough, full of disappointments and disruptions but we want you to stay the course. Your loved ones, those who are coming up behind you, generations to come are depending on you to stay the course! Staying focused helps you meet the goal, the course will shape your identity and define your purpose. Staying the course will lead you to Christ. Friend, you must stay the course.

You can make it! You will get through! With God, ALL things are possible. And with God, you can stay the course. It’s not about who finishes first but it’s all about who endures to the end. Will you hop over the hurdles? Will you ignore the distractions? Will you let those things and people that stand in your way be the fuel you need to propel forward? Your race matters to the kingdom of God. Your race helps us all make it to the end! You are not alone, your family in Christ are right there with you!

Listen, stay the course! Set your sights on the finish line! Let the exhortation of Paul be your motivation:

The road is long and hard. It gets tough. Friends leave you. Family can hurt you. You have to sacrifice and forsake those things that feel good to your flesh. But it’s all worth it in the end! We can guarantee that the prize is greater than the pain. We can guarantee that the promise will manifest. We can guarantee that victory will be yours. The guarantee isn’t in this world or in your capabilities, the guarantee is in Christ Jesus, our Lord!

When it is all said and done, staying the course and completing the task will yield this beautiful result:

“…Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.” Matthew 25:23

Stay the course, sis! It will all be worth it in the end!

Small beginnings…

It’s amazing what can be birth from a small seed: apple trees, oak trees, and beautiful willows. What about the babies that are born prematurely? Perhaps at one point they could fit into the palm of your hand because they were born early, but now they are taller than you and eating enough for two. The first page of a book can turn into a masterpiece.

It’s amazing what God can do with the small things and we cannot despise small beginnings:

It all begins with one step. We can complete a 5K with one step. We finish the website by simply starting. When we honor and complete to the small things, God can turn them into major things. It’s the consistency to the blog, that turns into a devotional. It’s the prayer call with one person that turns into the revival. It’s preaching to the one that can lead to the salvation of the 99.

Look at what David accomplished with simply a sling and five smooth stones. David was able to kill Goliath with a slingshot and a stone. That small weapon, that one moment in time led David to the throne and set the stage for Christ the Savior. Christ came through the line of David by way of the Holy Spirit.

As you launch out, as you start the journey: no matter what it may be: school, weight loss, or a relationship with the Lord, stay the course and keep pressing forward. And while you are managing the small, you can hold tight to this promise:

His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much...” Matthew 25:23

It’s in the small things that greatness is born.

It’s Not Over…

These certain feel like the end times, businesses are closed, certain states have closed schools until the end of the years, mass unemployment, mass illness, shortage of supplies—no wonder fear is creeping up in folks’ spirits.

Friends, may we fret not! It is not over! Each and every day we wake up and take a breath, we should be reminded that life is not over. After this is all said and done, a new normal will certainly be established, however, it is not over.

We as believers still have a duty and responsibility to minister to the lost. There are still folks out there that are discouraged, despondent, and downright scared. As long as there is breath in our bodies, we must preach the gospel. We must be the light that seems to be dimming quite rapidly.

Lawlessness, the love of many being made cold, wars, rumors of wars, false prophets, are all very present. Plagues, disease, false witnesses and the list goes on.

May we encourage you? Even in the midst of pain, destruction, and confusion, Jesus is present too. And He is greater.

Each time you witness, each time you choose love over hate, every time you opt to be peaceful–the Holy Spirit is demonstrating that He is also here and with us. So continue to do that which you were called to do.

Families can still be restored. The blood of Jesus still works. Ministries can still be birthed. Books still need to be written. Your mission and purpose is still needed.

It is not over, continue doing your good work…
