To the Broken-hearted…

There’s a song that asks: How Can You Mend A Broken Heart? The songwriter has his own ideas but we know there is only one to way to heal a hurting heart-and that is through Jesus Christ!

Left unattended, the brokenness of a heart can produce bitterness, strife, and jealousy. But when we take all of the broken pieces and give it to the Lord-He’s bound to make us whole again!

Check out a snippet from our podcast, From Worn to Well, that breaks down this very truth:

We know that the Father is near to the heartbroken and that He is waiting for us to run to Him!

Hurting? Clinging to the Father! Need healing? Pursue the Lord! Broken? Let the King put you back together again!

De-Throned.

What’s at the seat of your heart? Whatever or whomever is there, must be de-throned so that the Lord may take His rightful place. You may say: the Lord is at the seat of my heart. But are we sure? What takes up most of our time? What rules our minds? What comes out of our mouth?

Without our knowing, Jesus can be de-throned for: fear, anxiety, depression, family, friends, work, extracurricular activities. Our well meaning devotionals and Christian activities can also replace the Savior at the seat of our hearts. The good distractions and the bad ones-all can de-throne Jesus.

We don’t have to cancel the Youversion app or quit working out. We know that we have to care for our families and we have to work but these things cannot replace the Savior. All of our doings must flow from the Savior! The issues of life flow from the heart, but what’s at the seat of our heart?

It’s time to assess and replace accordingly. The Word of God tells us that at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow:

The knees of fear. The knees of your family and friends. The knees of anxiety. The knees of sickness. The knees of our workplaces. They all must bow to Jesus! Envision your heart as a chair-who is sitting there? What is sitting there? Tell that thing or person that they have to go! We replace as we praise, we replace as we worship in spirit and truth, we replace with fasting and praying, we replace with reading the Word of God. From there, all knees will began to bow.

Fear, depression, and work all have to bow to Jesus. Their time of ruling and reigning is now over-no more Sister! No more will you get worked up over the silliness of others. No more will we get worked up over the reactions and words of others-Jesus leads and governs our being! Their rule is over!

In Christ, we live and move and have our being. Anything else must have a seat!

Massage Therapy…

Massages are considered to be therapeutic. They can help one become more flexible, help one relax, and can be a tool to alleviate pain and discomfort. With the right touch and pressure, a stuffy nose can be resolved, a stiff shoulder can move without pain, and a fussy baby can be sent to a peaceful sleep.

Christians need massage therapy. Not in the context of the world’s perception of massages but we need our hearts to be massage. Hearts become heartened for a number of reasons: trauma, failed relationships, toxic friendships, and the list goes on. We are warned about guarding our hearts because from them flow the wellspring of life. How can anything flow from a hardened place? We need some massage therapy and who better than to go to the Kings of King for His loving touch?

Oh how we need the Father to massage our tender hearts with His love and care?! A stony heart cannot be penetrated with the power of God’s Word. A heart of stone cannot produce living water. A heart of stone must be submitted to God for a heart of flesh.

The Lord wants us to love Him endlessly. He wants us to care for others tremendously. And we cannot do that without some massage therapy from the Father. Our softened hearts leads us to being submissive. A softened heart is led to repentance. A heart of flesh facilitates true worship.

Friend, you may have been harden by the ills of this world. You may have been hurt and abused. You may have experienced trauma. Turn to the Father for massage therapy!

Welcome…

Welcome is a greeting that we often extend to those who enter into our space. We ensure that our space is presentable and inviting. We smile and we exude warmth and kindness as we greet those who come into our space. There tends to be a level of excitement when we get to invite someone into our home or our place.

This level of excitement should be extended to the Lord as we invite Him in. The beauty of the Lord is that He doesn’t require the finest linen. The Lord doesn’t require us to have the best food, the cleanest home, and the best decor. He simply requires a clean heart and a renewed spirit:

Do you long to welcome the Lord? This is how we welcome the Lord into our presence! We humble ourselves and kneel before Him. We seek His face above all us. We don’t have to be perfect to be perfected. As we kneel before Him and seek His face, we will be cleaned and made whole. A willing spirit welcomes the Lord.

As we pray, as we fast, as we read the Word of God-we invite the Lord into our space. As we extend forgiveness and show love, the Lord is invited into our hearts. Our lives and demeanor expresses our desire to be filled and be led by the Holy Spirit. We create a welcoming environment for the Lord with repentance and joy. Praise and thanksgiving creates an sweet smelling aroma for the Lord to let Him know that we desire Him!

May our lives bow before the Father and let Him know that He is welcomed here!

Never Forgotten!

You, our friend, are not forgotten! God remembered Noah, Abraham, Rachel, Issac, Jacob, and the list goes on! Matter of fact, go on ahead and add your name to the list! He remembers the covenant that you were grafted into as you became a believer. He remembers that you need bread, water, and shelter. He remembers your dreams and your desires. He remembers the prayers you’ve whispered and the ones you’ve have shout! Sis, He remembers you!

You are not forgotten by the Lord! You are not forsaken by Him. Will you stand on this promise today?

He remembers your desire to finish that degree, to start that business, and to start that ministry! Be encouraged, He has not left you nor forsaken you. Whatever you’ve done, there is absolutely nothing that can separate you from His love. So praise Him today! Praise Him for remembering your name, remembering your family, and remembering your purpose! Rejoice even now for His memory (unlike ours) will never fail! Rejoice because you know that you are on God’s mind! Rejoice because you are not forgotten nor forsaken.

Sisters Helping Sisters is extremely thankful that the Lord has heard our hearts and that He remembers us! If you are in Hampton Roads, Va, myself, Pastor Tanya Coles, will be featured on The Street Preacher broadcast on WGNT-27, The CW at 6:30am every Sunday morning! I am thankful that the Lord has remembered our ministry and remembered our desire to proclaim the goodness of God to those who lost and in need of encouragement!

This world may say that you are insignificant if you look a certain way, don’t have a degree, or don’t make a certain amount. I, too, was once trapped by the lies of the enemy and believed that I was insignificant. We are here to rebuke the lies of the enemy right now in the name of Jesus! You are not insignificant, you matter to the heart and mind of our Father and Savior! You are not forgotten, your Heavenly Father remembers you!

Etch this truth on your minds and hearts: I am not forgotten. I am not forsaken. The Lord remembers me.

Heart Healthy Diet…

There are specific foods that are good for the heart: Green veggies, whole wheat, berries, fish, and the list goes on. A heart healthy diet also includes stress management and exercise. The attention that the heart receives is vital because if it stops, we stop.

This natural fact is also a spiritual truth. The heart is of great importance because the “issues of life flow from it” Proverbs 4:23. So how do we maintain a healthy heart in the supernatural?

We stand guard: The heart is delicate and must be protected at all times. We can control what penetrates the heart by guarding our ear and eye gates. We must be careful in what and who we are listening to and what we are watching. Has listening to a sad love song ever made you sad? The heart wasn’t guarded. Have you ever watched something aggressive made you feel some type of way? You weren’t guarding your heart.

Weigh the weight of our words: The words we say and the words we digest affect the condition of our heart. There is “life and death in the power of the death” and to maintain a healthy heart, we must be mindful of the words we say. “Anxiety wears the heart down but a kind word cheers it up” Proverbs 12:25.

Choose Crosses Carefully: Ask yourself, is the cross you are bearing, yours to bear? Sometimes we try to carry the weight of the world on our shoulders, which destroys the heart. The burdens of the world were never intended for our shoulders or our heart. The cares of our world should be placed at the Lord’s feet.

Maintaining a healthy heart creates a space for the Lord to plant His purpose, His will, and His mission for our life. Having a healthy heart purifies the wellspring of life. A healthy heart is the good soil needed to hear and understand God’s Word.

The Greatest Gift…

is Jesus Christ.

It is through Him that we have access to the Father. It is through Him that we are able to pray and communicate with God. He tore that veil. It is through Jesus Christ that we can be saved. He alone, saves. His finished work on the cross defeated death, Hell, and the grave. Christ provides us gentiles with God’s protection, provision and promises.

Jesus Christ is the greatest gift we could ever receive. Through the gift of Jesus Christ, we have access to another important and great gift…

The Holy Spirit.

God’s Holy Spirit cannot be overlooked. His Spirit is our Comforter and as Jesus Christ left the Earth, the Holy Spirit was sent to be our Comforter until He returns.

This gifting is not some ghost hiding in a barn that only appears at night. This gifting isn’t some spirit that roams to scare and frighten, absolutely not! Some call Him the Holy Ghost , others the Holy Spirit. This does not change His function. He is our gift!

When He is eliminated from the conversation about God the Father and Jesus Christ, our Lord, we fail to grasp the significance of the gift left for us. The Holy Spirit is an active and vital part of the Trinity. He is deposited when we receive salvation and He is indeed a gift. Those who come to Christ need to know the beauty and the overwhelming nature of the Holy Spirit.

He convicts to produce change. He comforts because He knows that we will suffer for our faith. He communicates the heart of God. He brings forth good fruit within us. He changes our hearts from stone. He prepares us for the return of Christ. He transforms our mind. He makes us new. He know the mind of our Father.

He is our gift. He is our promise. There are some denominations who baptize with water, others who don’t. But we, who follow Christ, are ALL baptized with the Holy Spirit once we receive and accept Christ.

And this promise, this gifting is not just for us:

“For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” Acts 2:39

Embrace the promise, accept the gift.

The Heart of the Matter…

As a sign of mourning, the children of Israel would tear their garments and place ash on their foreheads. This would be the signal of sadness, depression, the loss of someone, and other unfortunate moments. Once recovered, the ash would be removed and clothing restored.

Nowadays, we tend to function in the same capacity. Your loved ones know when you are going through-there may be tears, perhaps, yelling or maybe even silence. And as humans, emotions are woven into our DNA.

However, perhaps we can learn how to take heed to the exhortation of the Lord:

This word from the Lord tells us that it’s really about the heart of the matter. Yes, we see the tears. Yes, we may have our own version of torn clothes. Perhaps it all may even be warranted, however, what about the heart change? The transformation of the heart is needed as well.

Have you render your heart about this matter? You’ve cried, you’ve vented, and you’ve gotten angry, but have you prayed? Have you surrendered your heart for healing? Have you laid your heart on the altar about the situation?

Rend your heart so that bitterness won’t take root. Rend your heart so that you can be set free. Rend your heart so that you can extend forgiveness to others and to yourself.

The pain and frustration won’t go away with the tears and ash, the heart must be healed for wholeness.

Get to the heart of the matter…

Draw nigh…

Nigh. Near. Close.

These directional exhortations from scripture tells believers where to be in proximity to the Lord. If you are wondering why you aren’t hearing from God, if you are wondering why God feels so far away, it may be your positioning.

Position can be from a physical or spiritual perspective. Are you not connected to life-giving relationships? Are you focused on everything else but God? Is your heart far from God? Your positioning is everything.

You want to hear from God, draw nigh. You want to experience God, come close. You want see the work of the Lord, draw near. Your positioning will change your perspective.

Soak in the Word. Surround yourself with life-giving community. Fill your eye-gates, your ear-gates, and your heart-gate, with life and not death. Seek the Lord in prayer. Fast. Draw close to the Lord and He will draw near to you, that’s His promise to you.

Draw nigh to the Lord. He desires you. He wants you. Heed to His desired postioning for your life.

From Petition to Praise…

Does your prayer pattern look somewhat like this?

Monday: Lord, please bless me with ______…

Tuesday: Lord, I need ______…

Wednesday: Father, I am asking for _____…

We repeat the same pattern throughout the week and start back over on Sunday. And make no mistake about it, we need to ask for that which we need. We need the restored finances, we need the basic necessities, and we need the reconciled relationships. And our petitions are heard and received by the Father! That’s enough to rejoice right there!

However, have we ever stopped and transitioned from petition to praise? Have we ever stopped asking and start acknowledging the Lord for who He is? Whether the prayers have been answered or not, let’s be committed to praising God for who He is!

Asking for healing? Praise the Lord for the Healer that He is! Asking for restoration? Give God the glory for He is the Restorer! Asking for protection? He’s the Protector! Go on ahead and give Him the praise!

Praise acknowledges the Savior. Praise announces that God gets glory! Praise gives victory to the Lord and not your problems! Praise reminds us that ultimately God’s in control! And praise, in the midst of your petition, is an active working of your faith:

Praise is an amazing demonstration of your faith! Your praise is an active expression of beliving that God will answer your prayer. It’s believing that the Father will meet your needs! As you present your petitions to God, we are believing (faith), that He can and will do it (well, we should be…)! If you are bold enough to petition God for that BIG vision, let your boldness carry on as you give Him a BIG praise! My sister, let your petitions lead you to praise.

As you rest those prayers at His feet, stand up strong and praise God for the answered prayers. We praise Him for His attentiveness to our cares and concerns. Praise God for He is absolutely worthy of your praise. Rejoice and be glad because the Creator of the Universe longs to fulfill your heart’s desires.

Make your petition known, make your praise LOUD.
