Tarrying Tears…

Crying is exhausting. Your nose starts running, your head eventually hurts, and your eyes get red. Usually, at times, after you wipe your eyes and nose, and the crying cease, you get clarity and understanding. After a season of tears, you usually will have a clearer mind and you are able to articulate and express yourself.

There is power in tarrying with your tears. Tears of sorrow and tears of joy both can produce harvest. The tears of sorrow can be therapeutic and the tears of joy can be words you cannot say. There is a harvest for your tears:

In certain seasons, you may have to tarrying with your tears-in your devotional time, in prayer, and in your quiet time with the Lord. Don’t let people write you off as a crybaby or emotional, quite the contrary!

Your tears will reap a harvest of songs of joy! Your tears matter to the heart of God! Your tears will build up your children and your loved ones whom you are concerned about. Your tears are healing your land even right now!

Tarry with those tears. Labor with those tears. Reap those tears-the harvest is coming! It will be plentiful and bountiful! Your weeping is not in vain and the Lord hears the words of your tears!

And as He hears your tears, as you tarrying with them, know that the Lord is coming soon to wipe them all away (Rev. 7:17). The tarry is worth the harvest.

How The War Is Won…

There is a quote, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t–you’re right.” Henry Ford

Mr. Ford was on to something.

One may say there is a war waging now, whether you consider the war from the nature perspective, with regards to the protests and the pursuit of racial justice and equality. Or whether you consider the ongoing spiritual battle from the supernatural perspective. The war is waging but with a focused mind and renewed perspective, it can be won.

If you hear of those protesting in streets or in the spirit, they realize that the battle is bigger than them but it doesn’t overwhelm them. They realize that the victory will change the generations to come. Those fighting, in the natural or in the spirit, understand that their enemy will not overpower them. The warriors on the battlefield, naturally or supernaturally recognize that peace and communication are keys to the victory.

This is how the war is won.

Your victory or defeat will always begin in your mind. It is no wonder that the Lord exhorts believers to transform and renew out mind with the Word of God:

With a mind set on victory, you can operate from a place of victory. You are not ruled by your emotions. With a victorious mindset, you are not governed by your feelings. You will be able to develop strategies of victory. You will be able to see the hand of God in your battle and in the war.

Your adversary also knows that with a transformed and renewed mind, you are unstoppable. This is why the attacks frequently begin there. If you think you are nothing, the war is lost. If you believe you are inferior, your enemy becomes bigger. If you are unaware of your identity, the enemy will begin to tell you who you are. Without a renewed and focused mind, anger and fury rule and win.

Soldier, continue to fight with a transformed and renewed mind. Continue to remain focused on the mission. Know that as you wage war against your adversary, it can be won.

Transform and renew your mind-the battle is first won there.

Thus Says The Lord…

Maybe your version reads “Thus saith the Lord” or “Thus says the Lord” or “This is what the Lord says”, no matter the wording, all should give us a pause because what comes after will be life-changing and life-saving.

Our experiences should always be filtered through “what the Lord says”. Our rejection, our frustrations, and our trials can all serve as platforms to know what “Thus says the Lord”. When we filter our lives through the Gospel, we place people, things, and moments in the proper perspective.

If Jesus truly sits on the throne of our lives, figuring out what “Thus says the Lord” should be our ultimate goal for every rough and tough situation. This is not to diminish your experiences or to casually look past your pain. This is simply to place the power back into the hands of the Lord. What “Thus Says the Lord” gives Him the victory! Our Lord should always get the final say-so!

Understanding His perspective about it all helps you heal. Hearing His voice gives comfort and peace. What He says about that pain and hurt will change your life and make you whole. We tend to reach to our family and friends about our trials and tribulations, but we must seek the Lord first!

After the pain, after you cry it out, yell it out, get frustrated, and downright mad, consider the exhortation from the prophet Jeremiah:

Find out what “Thus Says the Lord”…

The Heart of the Matter…

As a sign of mourning, the children of Israel would tear their garments and place ash on their foreheads. This would be the signal of sadness, depression, the loss of someone, and other unfortunate moments. Once recovered, the ash would be removed and clothing restored.

Nowadays, we tend to function in the same capacity. Your loved ones know when you are going through-there may be tears, perhaps, yelling or maybe even silence. And as humans, emotions are woven into our DNA.

However, perhaps we can learn how to take heed to the exhortation of the Lord:

This word from the Lord tells us that it’s really about the heart of the matter. Yes, we see the tears. Yes, we may have our own version of torn clothes. Perhaps it all may even be warranted, however, what about the heart change? The transformation of the heart is needed as well.

Have you render your heart about this matter? You’ve cried, you’ve vented, and you’ve gotten angry, but have you prayed? Have you surrendered your heart for healing? Have you laid your heart on the altar about the situation?

Rend your heart so that bitterness won’t take root. Rend your heart so that you can be set free. Rend your heart so that you can extend forgiveness to others and to yourself.

The pain and frustration won’t go away with the tears and ash, the heart must be healed for wholeness.

Get to the heart of the matter…

Experiences + Emotions = …

We are a people gifted with emotions. Think about a certain movie, perhaps one that makes you cry. Maybe there is one that makes you laugh. A certain experience will produce certain emotion. And that’s simply how we are crafted.

Think about the last or sermon you heard. You probably left service ready to go and change the world or ready to start a ministry that day! But let a few days go by and the feeling fades away.

Our time with the Lord has to move beyond experiences and emotions. Once the tears stop flowing, the fire dies down in our bellies, and we stand up after being knocked off our feet by the Word, what happens next? The emotions are appropriate and we need the experiences, and after both are done, we need the lifestyle change.

We must transition from experiences and emotions to transformations…

In the presence of the Lord, we must be transformed. Each time we enter into His presence, we come out better, stronger, and wiser. We come out prepared for whatever fiery darts awaits us.

Experience + emotions must equal transformation. Transformation is that change that lasts. It keeps the fire lit, it starts that book you long to write, and it ignites that ministry that will change your community!

Don’t let the power just fall away. Let your quiet time empower you for the day ahead, not just the moment. Prayer should embolden you for the obstacles ahead.

Be transformed.

Redeemed.

Redeem: to buy back; to get or win back; to free from captivity by payment of ransom; to help to overcome something; to release from blame or debt; to free from the consequences of sin; to change for the better; to repair and restore; to atone for; to make worthwhile

Free. Overcome. Repair. Restore. Atone. Worthwhile. Make it personal, sis! You are free. You are an overcomer. You are repaired. You are restored. You have been atoned for. You are worthwhile.

Those above statements defined who you are. Those above statements give a small glimpse into the amazing work of Christ. Those above statements must be reflected in our walk and talk.

My sister, you are redeemed. Perhaps you’ve been called many things, some good and some not so good. Your identity must be rooted in that ALONE. Let this characteristic shape your life, define your actions, and form your purpose.

Let the REDEEMED of the Lord say so!Let your life say so. Let your light say so. Let your work ethic say so. Let your treatment of loved ones say so. Let your treatment of strangers say so.

Don’t search too hard for “who you are”, scripture lays it out for us perfectly:

You are redeemed.

Faith over Feelings…

Think about the period of a 24 hr day: We wake up-indifferent, encounter traffic-grumble, we get coffee-happy, we read our devo for the day-happy, we get THAT email-annoyed, we eat lunch-happy, hit traffic headed home-grumble, and the list goes on. We are gifted with 24 hrs a day and probably go through 24 different emotions! Talk about inconsistent….

In His infinite wisdom, He blesses with this ability to experience emotions and feelings. He even permits them. One can imagine that laughter, tears, and happiness enriches life. God did not create robots so feelings and emotions come with this human package.

But we must not confuse faith and feelings. Feelings, if we let them rule and reign, hinders the effectiveness of our prayers. Faith must rule and reign in our walk as believers. The Lord is not moved by our little inconsistent feelings. He does not launch into action because we are frustrated, annoyed or upset.

He will comfort us as we cry. He will soothe us when we angry. He will grant understanding when we are confused. He will give rest when we are weary, food when we are hungry.

However, He is moved by our faith. The angels are dispatched when faith springs forth. Faith moves mountains. Faith slays giants. Faith fills empty wombs. Faith causes the cup to overflow. Faith brings the dead back to life. It is by your faith, that you are made whole.

So as you cry, whisper to yourself “I believe God”. As you vent, declare that you believe God. As you grumble, complain, and groan, declare that God has the final say-so. Even though you may not feel like doing so, choose your faith over your feelings.
