Grow Up!

Have you ever found yourself telling a sibling or friend, “Oh, grow up!” in jest or in good fun?

Well friends, perhaps as we are joking around with our loved ones, we may need to step in front of the mirror and tell ourselves that very same thing!

The good Lord exhorts us to transition from milk to meat in Hebrews:

“For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food, for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.” Hebrews 5:12-14

It’s time to grow, my sisters! It is time for us to transition from milk to meat! We have to declare now that we are going to teach, we are going to preach, and that we are going to be the leaders in our communities!

We can no longer be bounded by the things that use to trip us up when we first came to Christ. We cannot have a temper tantrum every time our Father says no. We cannot stumble over every obstacle that comes our way. We are no longer babes, we are mature in Christ!

We stand ready to engage in spiritual warfare. We stand prepare to rebuke every demonic spirit that tries to take over. We are filled with wisdom, we are encouraging others, and we are ready to do what thus says the Lord! We are going to choose to worship instead or worry. We will not be swayed by every distraction. We will stand tall because we are mature enough to know to stand on the promises of God.

Being grown up in Christ leads us to rejoice over closed doors because we know that’s God’s protection. Maturity in Christ leads us to thank Him for relationships that end because we know that He has better for us! Growing up helps us rise above the naysayers and the negative people because we are focused on the voice of the Lord!

Friends, we are no longer babies. Our childish days are over. It is time for us all to grow up:

Push power…

PUSH = Pray. Until. Something. Happens.

And that’s true!

But let’s talk about the actual act of pushing.

Something is in your way. Often times, it’s bigger and heavy and it requires an action by us in order to get to the next place in our journey.

Doors have to be pushed open and closed. You have to push a stroller in order to move your child. You have to push a cart to gather your necessary items. It requires force, strength, and power.

The physical concept of pushing can be applied to the spiritual. In order to get your next position, you are going to have to push your way through. You must push your way through your tears, anger and frustration. You must push your way past the naysayers and complacency. You must push your way through obstacles in your way.

These things are often heavy and bigger but they are no match for someone who is determined to get to what God has for them. Sometimes these things require the help of others and there are some things that you will simply have to move on your own. And there will be moments that pushing is required to save your children or loved ones.

Maybe you don’t think you are strong enough. Maybe you don’t think you have what it takes to push. Do not believe the lies of the enemy! The enemy wants you to stay behind closed doors. He wants you to leave the doors of your past open.

Friend, you have what it takes as a believer in Christ. You are more than a conqueror, you have what it takes to push! You have what it takes to push because the power of God is with you. You are connected to the One who defeated death. And in the kingdom of God, there is power…

Tap into your push power! Pray until something happens. Fast until something happens. Call the elders to push! Cast your cares onto the Lord by pushing them to His feet! There is power in your pushing! Your pushing will change your life and the lives of those around you.

The one…

We are a people whom seem to be infatuated with numbers. We are very concerned with the number of likes a post gets, the number on the scale, and the number of our bank account. We like high numbers on our paychecks. We like low numbers on the scale. We would like to have more than one car. The number of degrees matter. The number of vacations we take. If we take inventory, there is definitely a number that is sure to get our attention.

For Jesus, He found Himself concerned with the one. Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.” Luke 15:7

We were once, the one. We were the lost sheep that needed to be found. Rejoice even now that Jesus wasn’t concerned with maintaining the 99. He wasn’t concerned about higher numbers. He was willing to sacrifice it all for the one. He tenderly cares for the one. He is ALWAYS concerned about the one!

Be concerned about the one. Be concerned about that one family member, that one co-worker, that one post that’s a cry for help. The one needs your service. The one needs your testimony. The one needs your prayers.

And that one could change the world.

The One did change the world….

Fighting can be quite exhausting. All of that energy is exerted and fighting requires the mind and body! Sometimes, you just get down right tired. And sometimes, you just want to give up. However, our charge stands:

This post is not about a physical fight. This is all about the spiritual battle that we must face each day. This is about staring the Devil in his face and declaring that he will lose this battle as he’s already lost the war. This fight is about pressing on. This fight is about tapping into God’s strength and not your own.

This fight is about strengthening your mind with the Word of God to remain sane and focused. This fight is about strengthening your body with the Word of God to be able to withstand the blows of life. This fight is for your family, your friends, and the generations coming after you.

Fight for your ministry, your relationship, and your joy. Fight for your peace. The functions of the enemy is to steal, kill, and destroy. Decide today to submit to the will of the Lord and not the snares of Satan.

You can do this. You can fight. But most importantly, in Christ, YOU WILL WIN!

Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting? But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” 1 Corinthians 15:55,57

When was the last time you took the time to minister to yourself? When was the last time you took the time to fill your cup? This has to become an important part of our self-care routine.

Self-care seems to be a popular term nowadays. Most of the time it’s associated with napping, journaling, spa treatments, exercising, etc. And those things are nice and definitely can be considered key components of self-care. However, we cannot skip the most important part of self-care which is building up the spirit man.

You spend all day caring for others in some capacity, it’s time to take care of yourself. Fill your cups friends. An empty cup benefits no one. Your loved ones will not benefit from your “fumes”. Your ministry needs your best self. Your best self is developed with feeding yourself the Word of God. Fill your cup with the Living Waters provided to us by the Father.

The temple that houses the Holy Spirit deserves our attention. And as you care for the Spirit man, your physical man will flourish from the fruit of your reading, praying, and fasting.
So yes, get your sleep, drink plenty of water, and take those mental health day(s).

However, also read your Word daily, fast as led, pray always-this is where your self-care begins.

Fire Power…

“…each one’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done.” 1 Corinthians 3:13

Consider the exhortation of 1 Corinthians and ponder this question:

What power will the fire have on you?

Believers are promised many things, some of those things include fiery trials.

So don’t think it strange! Don’t spend too much time crying and wondering, why you? Why not you?! This is a promise in Christ, we have an adversary and we will experience suffering. If you look past the fire, you can also see the victory!

The fire is useful and add definition to our life. Frustrating? Yes. Needed? Absolutely! Will you buckle or will you stand? Will you give up or will you press on? Will you rebel or will you rejoice?

Make the decision to stand strong, to press on, and to be refined by the struggles of life! Don’t let the fiery trials consume you. Continue to do the work of the Lord. Don’t be defined by depression or anxiety. Don’t let a bad day, month or year define who the Lord is. You determine the power of the fire, don’t let it overpower you!

The fire is hot, the fire is overwhelming, and the fire is necessary. The fire can either consume you or refine you, the choice is yours.

Possessing the Victory…

The battle has already been won. Christ, the Victor, stands strong. He has conquered death, Hell, and the grave. No longer do we have to wonder if there is life after death, Christ has answered that question for us.

If Christ possessed the victory, why won’t we? If we are children of the Most High and joint heirs with Christ, then why won’t we attach ourselves to the victory that is in Jesus Christ? He is our Savior, He has saved us! In Him we are redeemed. In Him, we too, have won!

Possessing the victory is a mindset. Its transitioning from surviving to thriving. It’s letting go of stinky thinking. It’s speaking life. It’s seeing with our faith instead of our eyes. It’s acknowledging the victory each and every day as we square up against our enemy.

So as we suit up in our armor (see Ephesians 6:10-18), we no longer have to wonder if we are going to win the battle. We can stand confidently knowing that victory is already ours. The armor is for our protection against our adversary. The armor helps us acknowledge our victor, Jesus Christ. In Him, we live, we move, we have our being, and in Him, we always win.

So possess your victory today! Stand firm in the Lord. Be strong and courageous! Know that everything that comes against you will fall because our victory rests in the Lord (Proverbs 21:31) and it cannot be snatched away.
