Nowadays, mental health is a heavy conversation topic. The isolation that can be associated with social distancing is considered to be a contributor to mental illness. The increasing pressure due to the pandemic has been documented to affect mental health as well.
Good mental health cannot be taken for granted during this season. There are people fighting to maintain a sound mind. It’s important to check on our loved ones in this season, to seek out help, to submit our cares and concerns to Christ, and to lean not on our own understanding. The enemy is out to steal, kill, and destroy and we must remember that our mind is a key target!
So how do we fight the enemy? Not with physical weapons, but with spiritual ones! To maintain a sound mind, we must remember that we rest on His promise:
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind“. 2 Timothy 1:7
As we transform and renew our mind with His word, we can keep a peace of mind:
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:2
Our minds must be protected in during these times of worries and concerns. We cannot carry the weight of the world on our shoulders. We cannot afford to be anxious. And we cannot be connected to anyone or anything that is out to steal our joy! The Word of God provides us the best path in ensuring that we maintain a sound mind:
Our help comes from the Lord! Maintaining focus on heavenly things helps us place the things of this world in their proper perspective. Prayer helps us stay positive and mentally healthy. Studying the Word of the Lord helps replace those thoughts that tear us down with the mighty and powerful truth of God.
May we all keep a sound mind, now and forevermore.
