Draw nigh…

Nigh. Near. Close.

These directional exhortations from scripture tells believers where to be in proximity to the Lord. If you are wondering why you aren’t hearing from God, if you are wondering why God feels so far away, it may be your positioning.

Position can be from a physical or spiritual perspective. Are you not connected to life-giving relationships? Are you focused on everything else but God? Is your heart far from God? Your positioning is everything.

You want to hear from God, draw nigh. You want to experience God, come close. You want see the work of the Lord, draw near. Your positioning will change your perspective.

Soak in the Word. Surround yourself with life-giving community. Fill your eye-gates, your ear-gates, and your heart-gate, with life and not death. Seek the Lord in prayer. Fast. Draw close to the Lord and He will draw near to you, that’s His promise to you.

Draw nigh to the Lord. He desires you. He wants you. Heed to His desired postioning for your life.

Fire Power…

“…each one’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done.” 1 Corinthians 3:13

Consider the exhortation of 1 Corinthians and ponder this question:

What power will the fire have on you?

Believers are promised many things, some of those things include fiery trials.

So don’t think it strange! Don’t spend too much time crying and wondering, why you? Why not you?! This is a promise in Christ, we have an adversary and we will experience suffering. If you look past the fire, you can also see the victory!

The fire is useful and add definition to our life. Frustrating? Yes. Needed? Absolutely! Will you buckle or will you stand? Will you give up or will you press on? Will you rebel or will you rejoice?

Make the decision to stand strong, to press on, and to be refined by the struggles of life! Don’t let the fiery trials consume you. Continue to do the work of the Lord. Don’t be defined by depression or anxiety. Don’t let a bad day, month or year define who the Lord is. You determine the power of the fire, don’t let it overpower you!

The fire is hot, the fire is overwhelming, and the fire is necessary. The fire can either consume you or refine you, the choice is yours.

The Comfort of the Closet…

Have you ever read this scripture and thought about a million reasons why your actual closet would never work? The million and one things thats in there, the cleaning you would have to do in order to fit into your closet, the size…and the list goes on.

Thank the Lord that He is willing to accept all forms of the closet! Your journal, your alone time in the bathroom, an empty bedroom, your car, the backyard, your office-whatever space that you are able to use in order to spend some alone time with the Lord. The closet is all about intentionality, focus, and submission.

Your closet, whereever that may be, is a place of comfort. A place where you can cry out, scream out, or simply be silent. A place where all those cares that are weighing you down can be cast. A place where you can meet the Lord.

Let your secret place comfort you as you seek the sanctuary of the Lord. Let the strength of your private ministry bear (good) fruit. As you seek the Lord in your secret place, your smile will get bigger, your shout will get louder, and your wisdom will increase exponentially.

Let your closet, whatever and whereever that may be, comfort you.

Redeemed.

Redeem: to buy back; to get or win back; to free from captivity by payment of ransom; to help to overcome something; to release from blame or debt; to free from the consequences of sin; to change for the better; to repair and restore; to atone for; to make worthwhile

Free. Overcome. Repair. Restore. Atone. Worthwhile. Make it personal, sis! You are free. You are an overcomer. You are repaired. You are restored. You have been atoned for. You are worthwhile.

Those above statements defined who you are. Those above statements give a small glimpse into the amazing work of Christ. Those above statements must be reflected in our walk and talk.

My sister, you are redeemed. Perhaps you’ve been called many things, some good and some not so good. Your identity must be rooted in that ALONE. Let this characteristic shape your life, define your actions, and form your purpose.

Let the REDEEMED of the Lord say so!Let your life say so. Let your light say so. Let your work ethic say so. Let your treatment of loved ones say so. Let your treatment of strangers say so.

Don’t search too hard for “who you are”, scripture lays it out for us perfectly:

You are redeemed.

Promise Keeper.

Promises are tricky for us finite beings. Sometimes, even when we try our hardest, we just fail to hit the mark. Sometimes things happen that’s out of our control and the promise just never happens. Sometimes we just plain forget.

We should rejoice right now that God is not like us! The Lord is a promise keeper! The One who told you that He will supply all of your need according to His riches in glory will do it. The One who promises to prosper and not to harm you, means what He says. The One who promises not to leave nor forsake you, will NEVER do so. The One who told you to cast your cares onto Him because He cares for you, does really care for you. Trust Him.

He never fail to keep His promises! Never. It may not happen when we want it to but He is always on time! His Word tells us so:

What has He whispered over you? Over your loved ones? Trust Him, He will do it. What vision did He give you? Trust Him, it will come to pass. If God declares it, it is so!

The promise He has for your life, for your loved ones, for your business, for your marriage is one to never let go of because He is the Promise Keeper. Stand on His perfection. Trust in His perfect record, His power, and His authority. Trust in God for who He is, not who we are.

Faith over Feelings…

Think about the period of a 24 hr day: We wake up-indifferent, encounter traffic-grumble, we get coffee-happy, we read our devo for the day-happy, we get THAT email-annoyed, we eat lunch-happy, hit traffic headed home-grumble, and the list goes on. We are gifted with 24 hrs a day and probably go through 24 different emotions! Talk about inconsistent….

In His infinite wisdom, He blesses with this ability to experience emotions and feelings. He even permits them. One can imagine that laughter, tears, and happiness enriches life. God did not create robots so feelings and emotions come with this human package.

But we must not confuse faith and feelings. Feelings, if we let them rule and reign, hinders the effectiveness of our prayers. Faith must rule and reign in our walk as believers. The Lord is not moved by our little inconsistent feelings. He does not launch into action because we are frustrated, annoyed or upset.

He will comfort us as we cry. He will soothe us when we angry. He will grant understanding when we are confused. He will give rest when we are weary, food when we are hungry.

However, He is moved by our faith. The angels are dispatched when faith springs forth. Faith moves mountains. Faith slays giants. Faith fills empty wombs. Faith causes the cup to overflow. Faith brings the dead back to life. It is by your faith, that you are made whole.

So as you cry, whisper to yourself “I believe God”. As you vent, declare that you believe God. As you grumble, complain, and groan, declare that God has the final say-so. Even though you may not feel like doing so, choose your faith over your feelings.

Let it go…

Remember the show “Hoarders”? It is quite interesting to see the amount of things people hold on to and the reasons why they do. From newspapers to collectibles, the variety was endless (and entertaining). It was fascinating (and sometimes gross) to see the conditions of folks’ homes.

It begs to wonder if that’s what our insides look like as we hold on to bitterness, resentment, anger, and unforgiveness. Every time we declare to “forgive and not forget”, we are collecting and holding on to that negative memory. Every seed of envy, bitterness, and anger is sitting in our spirits, collecting dust and sprouting spiritual mold. Every grudge is damaging the strength and integrity of our spiritual man.

Declare today to stop letting that toxicity damage you from the inside out and LET IT GO! Let go of that which does not develop you, strengthen you or encourage you. Let go of that which hurt you. Let go of the things that bring you no joy. Jesus died on the cross for that pain and sorrow you are carrying around, let it go! You no longer have to hoard the hurt and pain. You no longer need to remember, choose to forgive AND forget-God did that for you!

You aren’t hearing from God? Perhaps your spiritual house is cluttered. There is a “…time to keep and a time to throw away…” (Ecclesiastes 3:6), what needs to be discarded? Sis, let it go. Be free from the clutter and distractions.

As scripture exhorts us to let it go: “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old.” Isaiah 43:18, we have to trust in the Lord to fill that which is now empty and cleared. We have to believe that better is coming forth. Letting go of a toxic relationship makes room for healthy ones. Letting go of anger makes room for joy. Discard fear and you can receive contentment.

And as you de-clutter, discard, and remove, cling to this incredible truth:

Let it go.
